The Swedish inventor and industrialist Alfred Nobel founded the Nobel Prize, which has been awarded annually since 1901. In his will, he stipulated that money from his estate should be used to establish a foundation that would distribute its dividends "as price to those who in the last year of humanity have done the greatest good" The money should be distributed in five equal portions to the fields of physics, chemistry, biology or medicine, literature, and peace efforts. The Nobel Foundation was established on June 29, 1900, four years after the death of Alfred Nobel. The first prizes were awarded in 1901. The Nobel Prize is awarded annually on December 10th, often known as Nobel Day, and is currently regarded as the highest honor in the disciplines that are taken into consideration. In Oslo, the Nobel Peace Prize and all other awards will be presented in Stockholm.
