The Cincinnati Masters is an annual outdoor hardcourt tennis tournament held in Mason, Ohio close to Cincinnati (under the name Western & Southern Open due to sponsorship considerations). The competition began on September 18, 1899, and is the oldest tennis competition in the country still held in the same city. Given that both the men's and women's events are among the WTA 1000 events on the WTA Tour and the Masters 1000 tournaments on the ATP Tour, the tournament is the second-largest summer tennis event in the United States behind the US Open.
