Creating innovative sustainability solutions within the private aviation sector

Hörsching (Linz), 28 September 2022 - GlobeAir is proud to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lilium N.V.

GlobeAir is proud to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lilium, the developer of the first all-electric vertical take-off and landing ("eVTOL") jet, with the intention for GlobeAir to purchase 12 aircraft to operate in Northern Italy and the French Riviera. This MoU represents a significant milestone as GlobeAir, and Lilium has come together to advance global change.

This MoU will kick off a mutually beneficial partnership to develop a long-term strategic collaboration to improve sustainability and advance new technologies. GlobeAir will continue to be the front runner of technological innovation by providing more quality time for its passengers.

GlobeAir has been investigating technological advancements in electric vertical take-off and landing (EVTOL) since 2016. Our continued investment in research and development is the first step in a pioneering spirit that will allow us to continue leading the industry in innovation, sustainability, safety and efficiency.

Sustainability is a priority that influences every conversation happening today. With GlobeAir's vision and mission toward sustainability, we recognise our environmental impact and continue to take bold steps to lessen our footprint. With zero carbon and noise emissions with low vibrations, this innovative new aircraft will revolutionise the aviation sector.

With the move away from fossil fuels, Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft are the next generation of air taxis. Evolving from the concept of personal aviation, the eVTOL aircraft is powered by electric propulsion and high energy density lithium-ion batteries rather than jet fuel. The eVTOL will provide a faster, safer and greener mode of transportation.

GlobeAir believes the air transport sector's new positioning requires an extensive production process investment, as well as direct and structural changes in aircraft design and construction, which are why we have identified Lilium as the most advanced player in research and development in the eVTOL sector.

We appreciate the investment in leadership, experience, and funding from Airbus. The Munich-based company has developed a six-passenger, one-pilot interior, highlighting its collaboration with Diehl Aviation, a leading supplier of aircraft systems and cabin designs to aerospace giants such as Airbus and Boeing.

'We are proud to be partnering with Lilium N.V. as they are changing how we think about aviation and revolutionising how people travel. Technological breakthroughs, a forward-thinking mindset and a drive to deliver quality time that fits customer expectations have propelled Lilium to the forefront of next-generation air travel.' Bernhard Fragner, CEO GlobeAir

With key suppliers already confirmed, Honeywell, Denso and Aernnova are expected to develop Lilium's electric motors and mounting propulsion system, respectively. Livent and Customcells are to supply lithium products to produce Lilium's battery cells using Zenlabs' technology. GlobeAir Project Manager Iva Bobkova is confident that key suppliers will help make this a great investment for GlobeAir.

This engineering marvel will significantly add to the GlobeAir experience, providing our passengers more quality time. Completing that last mile with seamless travel is essential in the customer journey. With the increased flight demand, allowing the new and flexible means of private air travel is now more critically important than ever. The first phase will be for leisure travellers focusing on the Cote d'Azur and Italian region. It will be greatly beneficial, especially during the busy summer months.

Sebastien Borel, SVP Commercial, Lilium

GlobeAir appreciated the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued regulations and safety rules. Lilium has completed its second Design Organisation Approval (DOA) audit by EASA. This paves the way for Lilium to obtain all certifications from all regulatory agencies so that flight safety will not be compromised passengers may travel on board. This is a fundamental requirement for all commercial aircraft manufacturers and enables type certification.

GlobeAir continues to create a sustainable ecosystem by partnering with like-minded organisations such as Lilium. They share our vision for the future of a sustainable and greener private aviation sector.
