The Spanish Grand Prix is known for its fitful history. Since its official admission to the World Championship series back in 1968, the Spanish Edition of the Formula 1 Grand Prix has changed house several times; mostly due to safety accidents. After a deadly crash happened in Le Mans in 1955, the race returned to calendar only in 1968 to close down again in 1975 due to another accident. The location passed from the Montjuic Circuit on to the city of Jerez, which commissioned a new circuit around 700 miles from Barcelona. The latter took on the premises of the Spanish Grand Prix in 1991 at the Circuit de Catalunya (now Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya), where the race is still held today.
With its stunning beach, a vibrant nightlife and streets full of architectural masterpieces, Barcelona is the perfect destination for a small city-break or a proper holiday.
